A Story of Inspiration and Hope
Katie was diagnosed with lymphoma over a year ago. Rather than let it overtake her, Katie has refused to let cancer control her life. She's chosen to fight it with a strength and determination that is inspiring.
Unwilling to let it change her life, Katie still travels, spends time with friends and family, works, and lives the most normal life possible under the circumstances. When she learned that cropping off her beautiful, long hair would give her a better chance of keeping some of it, she only thought for a moment before cheerfully going to the hairdresser to have 16 inches of hair cut off and donated to Locks of Love. Rather than mourn the loss, she turned it into a positive and generous event. That's Katie.
Instead of letting it get her down, Katie will take a chemo treatment and then head off to a weekend with friends if she wants to. Whether it's spending time on one of her creative endeavors or dragging a friend onto the dance floor (literally!), she's just not going to let this cancer slow her down. It's amazing to watch.
Katie's husband is a musician and Katie is a freelance artist. Medical bills are piling up, and the cost of medicine alone is overwhelming. One single shot of a life-saving immune booster (boosts white blood cells) costs $1,200. Katie is supposed to get them regularly, but can't - the financial cost is too great. The oral chemo element of her treatment by itself costs their family anywhere from $29,000-$57,000 per year.
It's staggering.
We don't want Katie and her husband to have to choose between medicine and other vital needs like groceries. The financial cost of fighting this cancer is beyond what any family could handle alone, so a group of friends are stepping in to help.
The basic concept of our event is to hold a huge silent auction on Katie's behalf. 100% of the money donated will go directly to Katie and will help pay for her medical treatment.
We hope you'll join us in supporting this amazing woman!
